The Lewisburg Police Department assisted by the Lewisburg Fire Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has made an arrest in the homicide of Malcolm Garrett. Garrett was found deceased and burned in his residence located on 543 Second Avenue North in Lewisburg on February 7th, 2019.
A residential fire was reported before midnight on February 6th, 2019 at 543 Second Avenue North in the City of Lewisburg. Upon arrival, members of the Lewisburg Fire Department found the residence engulfed in flames. In the process of extinguishing the fire the remains of one individual, later identified as Malcolm Garrett (Age 74) was discovered inside the residence. Detectives from the Lewisburg Police Department responded to the scene and determined the death and resulting fire appeared to be a homicide.
The investigation discovered several facts that lead to the identification of Alyssa Hutt (age 18) of Lewisburg as being a suspect in the death of Garrett. Hutt was located, interviewed, and made statements that resulted in her being arrested. Hutt was charged with Criminal Homicide and Aggravated Robbery and she is currently in custody at the Marshall County Detention Facility in Lewisburg. Bond was set at $310,000.
