On Friday, September 21st, Patrolman Amanda Mixon, observed a white 4 door pickup truck with an inoperable right headlight traveling on South Ellington Parkway toward Cornersville Road. She pulled the vehicle over on the corner of Yell Road and South Ellington. The driver of the vehicle was Dennis Levitt of Pulaski. Officer Mixon observed empty beer cans in the floor board of the vehicle and asked Mr. Levitt if he had been drinking. He stated no. Office Mixon ran his license and was advised that Mr. Levitt was supposed to have an “Ignition Interlock” device on his vehicle. He was asked to step out of the vehicle after the officer observed glassy eyes and slurred speech. Mr. Levitt was unsteady on his feet and finally admitted to drinking recently. Office Mixon and Patrolman Gunnar Southerland then searched the vehicle. They discovered empty beer cans, 3 glass bottles containing what appeared to be moonshine, and a sandwich bag containing a green leafy substance that appeared to be marijuana.
Mr. Levitt was asked if he could perform the Standardized Field Sobriety Task and he replied no. He was placed under arrest at that time.
Mr. Levitt was charged with DUI 4th Offense, driving on revoked ignition interlock, implied consent, drug paraphernalia, simple possession of a schedule VI drug, and was cited for no insurance and no lights required for the inoperable headlight. Levitt was given a bond of $7750 and a court date of December 3rd in Lewisburg City Court.
