A landmark business structure in Fayetteville was destroyed by fire in the early morning hours on Sunday. According to published reports, the blaze at Sir’s Fabrics started Saturday evening and, after fire personnel had left the scene, rekindled Sunday morning. An adjacent structure, housing Sir’s Marketplace, was also destroyed.
The Fayetteville Fire Department, the Tullahoma Fire Department, and volunteer firefighters from Lincoln County responded to the scene to prevent the fire from spreading to other buildings on the Fayetteville Square. Personnel from Fayetteville Public Utilities were also called to disconnect electric power to the area.
Electric power may not be restored to some businesses in Fayetteville for several days as several lines were also destroyed. The State Fire Marshall will launch an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire. A number of local churches were forced to cancel Sunday services due to the blaze and the loss of electrical power. No injuries were reported.
