TENNESSEE BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION ARRESTS LINCOLN COUNTY WOMAN

NASHVILLE- The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested a Lincoln County woman for doctor shopping prescription pills from several different doctors and pharmacies in two states after she was indicted by the Lincoln County grand jury yesterday.

Barbara Ann Bankston, 65, of Fayetteville, Tenn. was indicted on 21 counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and one count of attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraud. In November of 2012, the 17th Judicial District Attorney General requested TBI investigate an allegation that Bankston was fraudulently obtaining prescriptions. Through the course of the investigation, TBI identified a scheme where Bankston visited five doctors in Tennessee and one doctor in Alabama to write her prescriptions for Fiorinal. She was using three pharmacies in Tennessee and two in Alabama to fill her prescriptions. Fiorinal is a controlled substance that contains aspirin, butalbital, caffeine and codeine.
