On Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Marshall County Sheriff’s Department responded to 918 Belfast Farmington Road for reports of a male with a gunshot wound to the head. Alleged victim, Christopher Keith Blackwell, stated that he had been shot in the head with a shotgun by Joshua Scott Dodson at an address on Bob Hopkins Road approximately 45 minutes prior to calling 911.
Blackwell stated that he had been loading wood at a property near 1626 Bob Hopkins Road when he heard someone coming up the driveway. Blackwell went to investigate who was coming up the driveway. When both vehicles were in close range of each other, Dodson pointed a shotgun out the driver’s side window of his vehicle at Mr. Blackwell and fired one round striking Blackwell in the head and neck and striking the top of Blackwell’s driver’s side door and the back window near the passenger side of the vehicle. Dodson left the scene and Blackwell went to his residence at 918 Belfast Farmington Road and called 911.
Deputies arrived at the Blackwell residence and discovered his head and neck injuries and the damage to his vehicle were consistent with the statements he had made. While interviewing Mr. Blackwell his mother, who lives next door to Mr. Blackwell, stated that Mr. Dodson had driven by Mr. Blackwell’s residence around 8:30 p.m. the same day and fired a round on gunshots towards his property and drove away in the same vehicle.
A spent Winchester 12 gauge shotgun shell was recovered in front of the home near the road. All evidence was collected and turned over to the lead detective Jimmy Oliver and Blackwell was transported to Marshall County Emergency Room. A BOLO was put out for Dodson and his vehicle and was located in an unoccupied home on Trey Dr. by a Lewisburg Police officer. Dodson’s cell phone was also tracked to that general area of Trey Dr.
Several officers from the Lewisburg Police Department along with Deputies from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department converged on the area and located a newly constructed home at 189 Trey Dr. that had signs of someone located inside. A Detective on the scene made contact with the owner of the home and gained consent to make a forced entry. Lewisburg Police deployed the K-9 unit into the home and located the subject. After he ignored verbal commands and would not come out of a locked room, officers forced open the door to the master bathroom. Joshua Scott Dodson was found standing in the bathroom holding a shotgun. Mr. Dodson was taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail on the charge of Attempted Criminal Homicide. Bond was set for Dodson at $1 million dollars and his court date is set for July 24th at 9:00 a.m. in the General Sessions court of Marshall County Tennessee.
