Maury County Mayor Andy Ogles announced today that a Maury County resident has tested positive for COVID-19 and additional suspected cases are pending.
To date, Maury Regional Health has not had a patient test positive for COVID-19. We have tested 109 patients, with 22 negative findings. We are awaiting results for 87 patients from the three laboratory testing facilities utilized by the organization.
We realize it is a matter of time before we do have a patient who tests positive and implore the community to help us to slow the spread of this disease by using practices that include social distancing, frequent hand washing and avoiding touching your face. We also ask that the public follow our visitation guidelines for no visitors with very limited exceptions.
Currently, mass testing for COVID-19 is not available in Tennessee. Maury Regional Health, like other health care providers in our region, is following CDC guidelines for testing. Patients experiencing flu-like symptoms including fever, cough, difficulty breathing and/or close contact with a person known to have COVID-19 should always call before arriving at any health care location. He or she will work with the public health department and CDC to determine if you need to be tested for COVID-19. If you are urgently ill, please inform 911, the ambulance staff and/or emergency department registration staff that you may have COVID-19.
If you are asymptomatic (no symptoms) and have not been in contact with a person known to have COVID-19, you do not need to be tested at this time. If you have questions about your potential health risk, Maury Regional Health and the Tennessee Department of Health have established information lines for community members who have questions about COVID-19, including those concerned about symptoms and treatment. Calls are answered by health care professionals who can address questions about COVID-19, including symptoms and self-monitoring recommendations, and direct patients to an appropriate location for care, if needed. Those who need information related to COVID-19 are encouraged to call: Maury Regional Health COVID-19 Information Line 7 AM – 7 PM Daily 931.540.4257 Tennessee Coronavirus Public Information Line 10 AM – 10 PM Daily 877.857.2945
This is an evolving situation. We are working closely with our federal, state and local partners to stay informed with the most current information, to update our contingency plans and to educate the community. We encourage the community to utilize our website and the CDC as sources of additional information.
