Many people in Tennessee are trying to figure out the best way to support the relief effort in Texas. Tennessee has sent a swift water rescue team and other groups have headed to the disaster as part of the relief efforts to clean up after the floods.
Although help is much needed, WJJM would like to caution people when giving to individuals. Your money or materials would be distributed better by organizations that are ready and designed to help when disasters occur. There are several Tennessee corporations asking for donations and sending trucks to the Greater Houston area in the near future. WJJM suggests that you donate to these relief efforts. In Marshall County and in Bedford County, Calsonic is collecting materials to fill a truck this week and Church Street Church of Christ is collecting monetary donations this week that will be donated to the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Center based in Nashville. This organization collects and packages boxes to be sent all over the United States year-round when disasters occur.
A Facebook link to NPR-The two-way in an article titled “Here’s How You Can Help People Affected by Harvey” suggested other organizations based in Texas that were actively working with the Houston Community. Some of these are: The Greater Houston Community Foundation, GlobalGiving, United Way of Greater Houston, Go Fund Me, The Salvation Army, Samaritan’s Purse, and Feeding Texas.
