On Tuesday, June 19th at 10:45pm Lewisburg Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on a blue Ford Expedition on North Ellington Pkwy for having excessively loud exhaust. Upon contact with the driver, 32 year old Melissa Joyce Kelley, the officer smelled the odor of alcohol. He then asked her to exit her vehicle. At that time, Kelley admitted to the officer that she was driving on a revoked license, but did not say why. After checking on Kelley’s license status, Officer Christopher Stallings determined her license had been revoked due to a DUI and that she had been declared a habitual motor offender.
Officer Stallings asked Kelley how much she had had to drink and if she would be willing to perform a Standardized Field Sobriety Test. She stated yes. After unsuccessfully performing several tests, Kelley was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence.
Ms. Kelley chose to leave her purse and phone and possession in her vehicle. While searching the vehicle, Officer Stallings found several drug paraphernalia items. At this time Ms. Kelley was transported to Marshall Medical Center for a mandatory blood draw and a search warrant for a sample of Ms. Kelley’s blood was obtained. Kelley was transported to the Marshall County Jail.
Melissa Joyce Kelley was charged with Possession of Schedule II, Habitual Motor Offender, Driving Under the Influence 4th , and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Her court date will be July 23rd and bond was set at $7,500.
