There is a scam going on in the Chapel Hill area that citizens need to be aware of. Someone will call your phone. The number shows up as the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, and they advise that you have missed a court date and there is a warrant for your arrest. They will try to get you to pay a bond to keep you from going to jail or tell you to go to the Sheriff’s Office. Then they will call you later and tell you they couldn’t make it to the Sheriff’s Office and you need to send them the money. Do not send any money.
If you have doubts or questions, call the Marshall County Sheriff’s office at 931-359-6122. These scammers will also use officer’s names at the Sheriff’s Office to try and convince you to send them money. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office will never ask for money over the phone. If you get a call, write down the phone number and call the police department.
